Chapter 1 Prologue
"Your Majesty, a thousand mistakes and ten thousand errors are all the fault of your old minister. I beg you to spare the queen." A middle-aged man knelt on the ground, his forehead cracked and bleeding profusely, his previously neat hair now disheveled and scattered across his head.
"Your Majesty, it's all because our ambitions were too great. Please spare Wang Hou." At this time, another young man crawled to the feet of the unmoved king and repeatedly begged for mercy.
On the other side, a woman in moon-white clothes stood beside her. If it weren't for her pale face and tightly clenched fists, people would have thought she was an unfeeling person. But what could she do? It was because she had a soft heart and didn't listen to her father's and brother's orders that she couldn't bring herself to feed the poison to that man, thus implicating her father, brother, and even the lives of their entire clan.
"Let the order be passed down. The entire family of Chancellor Cang Hai is guilty of plotting to usurp the throne, showing no respect for the monarch, and committing treason. They have been apprehended. Cang Hai Meng Er, who was granted imperial favor and became empress, has failed in her duties as a woman and has not given birth to an heir after many years. She is stripped of her title as empress and will be punished along with her family members. The sentence is death by beheading."
With one order, she finally fell into a sea of darkness.
She woke up again, already on the execution ground. She looked at her family, young and old, and her father's subordinates, 23 people in total, all because of her own soft-heartedness, inviting this disaster. She was guilty beyond forgiveness.
"Dad, it's not your fault, if I had remembered your words in my heart, our family wouldn't have ended up like this." She didn't cry, but her face was pale, her voice trembling, and her eyes sorrowfully gazed at her father who had turned white-haired overnight.
"Meng'er, this has nothing to do with you. The king has long wanted to get rid of our entire clan. Since you were a child, you've always been kind-hearted, and it's hard for me to ask you to take action. But, I still want to tell you, one man's success is built on the bones of ten thousand people. Meng'er, sometimes it's not about endurance or concession. It's just... *sigh*... who can be blamed? Fate has brought us to this point."
"Dad, if there's an afterlife, I'd still want to be your daughter."
"The time has come, carry out the execution!"
Looking at the bright red all over the field, her heart was filled with resentment, letting her soul float in the air above the execution ground for a long time.
A wisp of smoke enveloped her, and she entered a realm of reverie. Ahead of her was an old man with a flowing beard standing next to a child, while in front of the old man knelt a woman dressed in white.
"Please help Meng Er, her life has just begun."
Is she talking about me? That voice sounds so familiar; that figure looks so familiar. But she can't see her own face.
"Alright. From now on, you'd better not intervene again. Otherwise, even I won't be able to help you."
"Disciple, obediently following the master's teachings."
"Gosh, Grandpa, how did she get up here?" The child jumped back and retreated behind the old man's back, staring at her with a terrified gaze.
"What are you afraid of? You useless little thing." The old man patted the dust off his back again.
"Are you Canghai Dream?" The old man walked past the kneeling 'girl' on the ground and stood in front of Canghai Dream.
"Old Master, it's Xiao Nu Zi." Meng Er bowed slightly towards the white-bearded old man.
"Ah..." The old man was about to speak when she saw a ring of golden light appear on the top of her messy hair. He counted on his fingers. "I've got it."
"Grandpa, grandpa, what is it?" The child saw Grandpa say 'got it', and his eyes flashed with a joyful light. Even if the old man was staring at the vast sea of dreams and didn't respond to him, he couldn't reduce his excitement at this moment.
"It's a good thing you're an innocent child by nature, anyway, go where you should go and bring blessings."
"Old master, where am I going?" Canghai Meng saw the old master's feather duster sweeping over and was afraid that he would sweep her away like a fairy in a book, so she quickly grabbed his feather duster.
"You kid! What are you doing holding onto my duster? Let go!"
"Don't let go, you'll sweep me away." The old man in the dream was about to pull back with force, and she also pulled hard.
"You're the mother of a nation, and look at you now! What have you become?" The old man couldn't help but use his other hand to poke Dream's head.
"After all, I'm just a lonely soul now, who cares about dignity?" Meng'er thought. Dignity is still something that can be put on, and now that she's no longer the empress, why bother maintaining this title and exhausting herself?
"There is an opportunity now. To take you into a future world. Are you willing to go?"
"Where's my dad and big brother?"
"They have their own place to go."
"What will it be like there?"
"You'll know when you get there? Just..."
"What's that?"
"There is just a five-year limit. Are you willing to accept it?"
"What is the five-year deadline?"
"You'll know when you get there."
"What if I don't accept?"
"Escape into reincarnation."
The vast ocean of dreams, from a young age, she admired the heroic women who roamed the world, righting wrongs and bringing peace. However, as the daughter of a prime minister, with a body worth a thousand gold coins, her father had taught her from a young age to be demure and ladylike. So, despite having unused martial arts skills, knowledge of medicine, and slender hands that could play heavenly music, she would never have the chance to show off her talents again. She didn't want to just go through the motions of life.
"I'm willing."
"Let's go."
"What about her?" Canghai Meng looked at the 'girl' who was still kneeling with her back to him in front of the old man.
"She's getting what she deserves. And let go of my duster, I just wanted to switch hands while holding the duster."
"Really?" Cang Hai Meng looked at the old man with doubt, she found that the light in his eyes was very sincere. Okay, he shouldn't deceive me. So, slowly released her hand. Just as Cang Hai Meng let go of her hand, the old man's duster swept across.
A gust of wind blew by, and suddenly I wasn't just switching hands to dust, but somehow ended up in a strange place?
The Cang Hai Dream looked through a large piece of transparent glass and saw a girl with strange things stuck all over her body. Her pale melon-shaped face made her look even more delicate; her curved eyebrows were closed tightly, and her long eyelashes seemed to be flapping like butterfly wings when she opened them. Her nose was straight and her lips were thin and medium-thick, now covered by a bottle, with the air she breathed out hitting the bottle and creating a layer of mist. She, she, how did she look so much like me? The Cang Hai Dream turned to look at the old man, who seemed to feel her gaze and looked at the girl inside, saying slowly.
"She is also called Cang Hai Meng, this is the 21st century, it's that completely unfamiliar country I told you about. In order to help you adapt to life here as soon as possible, I will implant the memories of the girl lying in the hospital bed into your brain." Meng'er patted her heart, fortunately Grandpa was there, fortunately she would have her memories, otherwise, she really didn't know how to face this new environment.
"Go! Go and fulfill your mission!"
Canghai Meng heard Grandfather's words and seemed to be pulled in, entering the body of that 'plugged' girl full of tubes.
