Chapter 16 Water is Life

  Water is life

Looking at her like this, Yukimura couldn't help but chuckle as he poured a glass of water and handed it to her. She took it, but only stared at the water inside, twisting her face as she swallowed the pill. Then, pursing her lips, she said to him: "It's really bitter."

Koumura was suddenly speechless, of course he knew that the medicine was very hard to swallow, it was precisely because it was so unpalatable that he had given her water.

"Why don't you drink water?" Yukimura asked in puzzlement.

At this time, he suddenly remembered that the girl often showed a look of longing when facing the water bottle, but he rarely saw her drink water. Occasionally, when there were no books to flip through, she would stare at the water inside the bottle with all her might. Every time he picked up the water bottle and poured himself a cup to drink, he would see her pupils constrict, watching him tensely as if afraid that he would drink all the water.

The girl still stared at the cup of water in her hand, looking very serious, but the answer she spat out made him go black, "Drink a little, and there will be less water."

Koumura, did he give her family a wrong impression of lacking water at home?

"We don't live in a desert... it's not that scarce." So when you want to drink water, there's no need to be frugal.

"No, it's not that." Looking at the water cup in her hand, she seemed a bit troubled, habitually biting her lower lip. Every time she didn't know how to explain or answer, she would have this small action.

"How to say it? It's just that even though I know there's a lot of water in front of me, I still can't change my habit and always feel like drinking some will make it less. I always want to keep some water in sight because people can go without food for a long time but they can't live without water. Water is life, no water means death."

She shook the cup in her hand, watching the water inside churn and splash, but careful not to let it spill over.

"When I see water in front of me, I feel at ease. Because with water, I won't die. But if this water is drunk..." She gulped down the water in her hand, swallowing it loudly as if savoring something delicious. Then she held out the cup to him, "See, after drinking it away, there's no more water."

Without water, it's as if life has no guarantee. Especially there, water is particularly precious.

Koumura stared at her as she finished speaking, but in reality he was just spacing out.

Water is life, this is textbook knowledge, as the human body is composed of 60% water. However, in this peaceful world, apart from desert dwellers, who else can truly appreciate the meaning of "water is life"? They never lack water, heaven has given them extremely preferential treatment, at least when it comes to water, they have no worries.

So he stood there in a daze, staring thoughtfully at the girl who was already sitting on the couch reading a book. Her speed of flipping through the pages remained as swift as ever.

"It seems those books weren't read in vain."

The girl's hand suddenly stopped turning the pages. She raised her head, her voice still calm, "I'm reading a book, not flipping..."

Kōmura obviously didn't believe him, "A good book should be savored while reading, every word and every sentence should be carefully relished. What you're doing is just skimming through."
