Chapter 114: The Wheel Begins to Turn

Chapter 114: The Wheel Begins to Turn

In the days that followed, Alex did not immediately take a. Instead, he tinued with his daily routitending csses, finishing the day, sipping tea in the infirmary, and waiting for students seeking sel. Perhaps it was the aura of respectability surrounding his role as a selor or the intrigue of his "overseas education" background, but many students came to him. Most of their s were minor—"he took my toy," "I like so-and-so but don’t know what to say," or "people don’t like me; what should I do?" heless, Alex listened patiently, addressing each issue with care.

He uood that only by doing so could he gain the reition of certain beings.

Sure enough, his efforts paid off. Oer, a visitor arrived at his "seling office," someone he had been expeg.

  “Um… teacher, am I disturbing you? I hope I’m not…”

  “Wele, Rena.”

Alex smiled as he stood up aured to the girl in a white dress before him.

“Not at all. This is part of my job, after all. Please, sit… Would you like something to drink? Tea? Coffee? I also have some cake.”

“Oh, I’d love some tea, please.”

  “Certainly.”

At her request, Alex poured her a cup of tea, then took a piece of fruit cake from the fridge. Seeing the cake, Rena’s face immediately lit up.

“Oh, it’s so cute! I want to take it home!”

This could be sidered a type of psychological quirk.

Watg Rena gaze at the cake with delight, almost as if hypnotized, Alex made a mental note. He then closed the door, returo his chair, and snapped his fingers. Instantly, a soundproofing spell activated, transf the room into a secure space.

This was one of Alex's precautions. After all, this was a simple, rural school, and the enviro wasly high quality. Most of the students were children, which made them particurly sensitive to such matters. Alex wao avoid anyone eavesdropping outside during his sessions. Though it was a minor , it would be a signifit problem if overheard by someone who then shared it with the person involved. So before each "session," Alex would use a soundproofing spell to elimihis issue.

Of course, on the flip side, this also meant that no matter what happened in the infirmary, nobody outside would hear a sound… heh heh…

  Alright, enough of that.

Perhaps thanks to the tea and cake, Rena was now more rexed than when she first arrived. After taking a sip of tea, she looked up at Alex.

“Actually… teacher, I have something troubling on my mind, but I don’t know how to say it… it’s about my father…”

As he listeo Rena’s story, Alex began recalling the details of her background.

Rena’s story was tragic. Her mother, a talented designer, had her husband quit his job and relocate to support her career. Unfortunately, her success led her to look down on him, fav the men at her level instead. Eventually, she divorced him over an affair, leaving Reionally devastated.

And this was only the beginning. Upon moving back to Hinamizawa, Rena’s father fell into depression, drinking excessively. He the a woman at a local hostess club—Mamiya Rina.

Rina was the lover and partner-in-crime of Hojo Teppei. She and Teppei set a trap, coaxing Rena’s father into spending vishly on her. Eventually, uhe pretense of marriage, she vinced him to buy her a house with his entire savings.

Ohe house was bought, Teppei reappeared, g “You dare touch my woman?” a Rena’s father senseless. The poor man lost everything.

Seeing her father suffer, Rena couldn’t bear it any longer. She ultimately killed Mamiya Rina and Hojo Teppei, starting the dark legend of Hinamizawa, and making her hatchet one of the infamous “Three Deadly ons.”

Alex thought that no one could endure what Rena had gohrough, especially given how unlikely it was to win a wsuit against such people. Holy, most people in Rena’s shoes would likely resort to killing those who caused such misery.

Unfortunately, Alex had a gut feeling that in this world, he absolutely couldn’t solve things with violeherwise, he would’ve already found a way to get rid of those two by now.

“Now my father wants to buy that woman a house… I really don’t know what to do…”

This was the “limit” of a “child.”

Watg Rena lower her head, Alex sighed inwardly.

A child is, after all, a child. No matter how mature or resilient they seem, they still long for the support of their parents. For someone like Rena from a single-parent household, such a burden was immense. Even if Rena appeared carefree, her heart could hardly remain at ease.

  But Alex had an idea.

“Rena, do you trust your father?”

  "Uh…"

Hearing Alex's question, Rena froze for a moment. After hesitating, she shook her head.

  "I… I don’t know, teacher… I just feel like my father isn’t himself anymore..."

"Alright, let me put it another way."

As he spoke, Alex took a sip of his coffee.

"Do you believe your father still loves you?"

"Of course my father loves me!"

At this, Rena suddenly stood up, g her fists tightly.

"I just want my father tet the past and live happily, but that woman… that woman is deceiving him! All he see now is her!"

Rena’s face twisted with rage, and even Alex could feel the inteerrifying killing i emanating from the girl. It was like a fierce beast about to bare its fangs.

  Is this the Hinamizawa Syndrome?

Not only that, but Alex was surprised to find that Rena's strength seemed to have increased. Acc to the main world’s ranking system, Rena reviously at a typical human level, but now, she was rising to ary-level power!

Is this virus a Saiyan reination or something? Could she actually have some sort of “super transformation” ability?

"Then go talk to your father."

Alex knew well that the st thing you should do when someone is angry is to try to calm them dowing anger is natural, and trying to suppress it only adds more fuel to the fire. So, his goal wasn’t to soothe her; it was to open the lid—theinguish the fmes.

  "Huh?"

Rena was stunned by his ued response. She stared bnkly at Alex, her previously furious expression gradually softening, while the aura of killing i also slowly faded.

"If you truly disagree with your father’s as, then go and tell him directly. Keeping it all bottled up inside won’t ge anything. If you want to say something, say it out loud. And if you still believe he is your father, you shouldn’t be afraid to do that, right?"

Alex took another sip of his coffee, looking at Rena with a slight smile.

"Or… do you think he won’t take your words to heart, that he cares more about that woman than he does about you?"

"That’s impossible! Daddy loves me the most! And I love him, too!"

"Then go and have an ho versation with him."

Alex set down his coffee mug and looked at Rena with a gentle smile. He had entered simir situations before and uood how these kids thought. They khey were hurt, but they bottled it up, hoping that by being “obedient” or “uanding,” their parents might e around or show them more love. But this was clearly a false hope.

"If you don’t speak up, your father will never know. We unicate through words because not everything goes as people imagine. Perhaps you should give it a try."

  "…"

Rena was silent for a moment after Alex’s response, but then she seemed to make up her mind, bowing respectfully to him.

"Thank you, teacher. I’ll try my best."

  "Good luck."
