Chapter 116: Twin Sisters
"Eh?"
Both sides were momentarily stunned by the sudden appearance of Alex. The green-haired girl g Alex with surprise, then lowered the hand she had slipped into her jacket. However, the hooligan in front of her clearly didn’t pn to back off just yet.
"Hey, who are you, bro? Do you even kn—o…!"
"In broad daylight, hitting on someo least show a bit of css."
Alex held the hooligan's right hand in a firm grip, refusing to let go despite his cries of pain. He simply watched the se with a faint smile.
These guys could be killed.
Unlike his previous enter with Teppei Houjou, Alex didn’t feel any ominous warnings from the world itself when he had murderous ioward these men. It seemed there was indeed something unusual about this world. Someone like Teppei, who deserved to die, rotected by the world’s will, yet these small-time punks, whose sins were minor, could be killed without sequence… How iing.
"Leave now. I don’t want to say it again."
Bringing his thoughts back, Alex coldly looked at the gang. They were now utterly cowed, frozen in pder the murderous aura Alex exuded. It felt as if they were surrounded by a horde of beasts, ready to tear them apart at a single and.
"Got it?"
"Y-yes! Sorry! We’ll leave right away!"
As soon as Alex let go of his hand, the thugs scrambled away, not even b to retrieve their motorcycles. Perhaps it was for the best; driving while tense could easily lead to acts.
Turning back, Alex looked at the girl behind him.
"Mion, why aren’t you in school? What are you doing here?"
Ihe girl the hooligans had harassed was one of Alex’s students and one of the main characters—Sonozaki Mion.
Or so it seemed!
Of course, Alex knew her true identity. As he mentiohis was actually… Sonozaki Mion.
But this Sonozaki Mion wasn’t the one from Hinamizawa.
To be precise, the Mion attending csses in Alex’s css in Hinamizawa was actually Sonozaki Shion. And the girl currently strolling around Okinomiya was the real Sonozaki Mion.
This was one of the peculiar twists in Higurashi.
These two girls were twins and had looked identical since childhood. But acc to the Sonozaki family’s rules, if two daughters were born, the sed would be drowned. However, Shion ared this fate and instead exiled to Okinomiya, practically a form of banishment. Mion, oher hand, was raised in Hinamizawa as the successor to the family head.
The two sisters occasionally met i. Shion admired Mion’s position and, to indulge her sister, Mion would sometimes switch pces with her, letting Shion experience her life for a while. The tragic mistake happened during one of these switches.
Before one particur ba, Mion, unaware of the event’s importance, agreed to s with Shion. She assumed it was an ordinary event and, with Shion pleading to go in her pce, she allowed it. However, it turned out to be the formal ceremony the Sonozaki family heir, during which the successor received a demon tattoo on their bao one realized that “Mion” was actually Shion, so they tattooed the demon mark on her, sealing their fates.
From then on, Shion was reized as “Mion” a at the main household.
Meanwhile, the real Mion, now marked as “Shion,” was exiled.
This was tragic.
Afterward, Mion cried and protested several times, but the Sonozaki family reized only the tattoo as proof of identity. Ultimately, she had no choice but to live as "Shion," the banished sister in Okinomiya.
This was one of the reasons for Shioual breakdown. Because of a small childhood prank, she lost everything she held dear. Her sister took the life she’d wanted, while she was left in exile, with a home she could never return to...
Anyone would lose their mind in such a situation. In a typical fantasy his would be the cue for a bloodbath.
So much for the Hinamizawa Syndrome—it was just a ve excuse for the Sonozaki family’s twisted fate.
"Eh? Ah… Sorry."
It seemed that Mion—or rather, Shion—finally realized what was going on. She gave a shy smile, took two steps back, and waved her hand.
"Uh… Sorry, Teacher, I just had a little… thing."
"Teacher?"
Alex narrowed his eyes, studying her with i.
"You're not Mion, are you? You’re…"
"…"
Hearing this, Shion’s face turned plex. After a brief hesitation, she fshed a mischievous smile.
"Yes, you’re right. I’m Sonozaki Shion, Mion’s younger sister. And you must be Mr. Alex. o meet you, and thank you for looking after my sister."
"So, you’re her sister?"
Actually, she was her elder sister.
"Yes, thank you for your help, Mr. Alex."
With that, Shion looked at Alex aended an invitation.
"If you don’t mind, how about having a cup of tea together? I’m curious about my sister’s life in Hinamizawa."
See, that’s the be of high charm.
"Of course, I don’t mind."
At Mion’s invitation, Alex apanied her to a nearby café. After they took their seats, Shion began to examine Alex unabashedly.
"I hought you’d be able to tell that my sister and I aren’t the same person. Holy, I’m really curious—how did you figure it out, Alex?"
"It’s because of your aura."
"Aura? You don’t mean smell, do you?"
"No, I mean presence, or you could think of it as personality."
As he spoke, Alex took a sip of tea, then looked at the girl in front of him with i.
"For instance, around some people, you might feel tense, while around others, you feel fortable. That’s their aura. Some people naturally have a presehat makes others feel uneasy, while others don’t—it’s i, ungeable. You and Mion give off different feelings. Mion is livelier, while you’re a bit more posed."
"To think you could tell just by that…"
Hearing Alex’s answer, Shion looked at him with wide, surprised eyes.
"My sister mentiohat you’re a selor at the school, Alex. Now I see you might actually have some skills… Has she ever e to you for advice about her worries?"
"As a selor, I have a duty to maintain fidentiality."
"Oh, e on, I’m her sister! If she’s troubled, she could share it with me just the same."
"But everyone has their own perspective on problems."
Alex smiled at Shion as he tinued.
"Maybe what seems trivial to you could be a huge to Mion. The reverse is true as well; everyone has their unique worries, and each person perceives them differently."
With that, Alex stood up.
"Well, I have things to take care of, so I’ll be on my way. Oh, and if you’re ever ied, you’re wele to e to the school for seling too—it’s free."
He Shion and then turo leave.
Shion watched Alex’s departing figure with an indecipherable expression. After a moment, she let out a long sigh.
"Kasa, I know you’re there."
"Yes, Miss."
With this response, a tall man in a bck suit, wearing sungsses and looking every bit like a yakuza, emerged. He gave Shion a respectful bow before sitting down where Alex had been.
"What do you think of Mr. Alex?"
"With all due respect, he’s a very dangerous man."
"Oh?"
Shion’s eyes widened with curiosity at Kasa’s response.
"This is the first time I’ve heard you call someone dangerous. Could he be a pyboy?"
"That’s not the reason."
The suited man shook his head, then spoke in a low voice.
"When those thugs were harassing you earlier, I sensed an overwhelming killing i emanating from him. It was so intehat even I couldn’t bear it…"
"Eh? But I didn’t feel anything at all."
"I’ve heard that some powerful individuals trol their killing i at will. It seems that gentleman has that ability."
"How iing…"
Hearing this, Shion’s eyes sparkled with intrigue.
"For someone who could scare even you, Kasa, what would bring him to such a small pce like Hinamizawa?"
"Well, I work here for you, Miss. Everyone has their reasons. But from what I tell, that ma seem to pose a threat to Miss Mion."
"Is that so…"
At Kasa’s answer, Shion’s eyes glinted with a sudden idea.
"Hmm… I think I just thought of a fun pn."
