Chapter 12 Is Sleeping Difficult?

  Sleeping

She finally calmed down and returned to her usual puppet-like state, cooperating with him as he changed into new bandages.

He waited until she had finished packing and then she closed her eyes and fell into a deep sleep.

The rain outside is still falling ceaselessly.

After dealing with all of this, Yukimura felt like he was almost exhausted. A doctor's work is indeed not something that anyone can do, no wonder they are called angels in white coats, and must be revered with the utmost respect for this profession.

He slightly moved his neck, and tilted his head to check the time. It was already past 11 o'clock... He didn't expect it would be so late, if he had known, he wouldn't have suggested going to the hospital in the first place.

Sitting on the edge of the bed, the girl was sleeping very soundly. Unlike her usual calm and collected demeanor when awake, her expression while asleep had relaxed and become gentle. She really didn't suit that puppet-like expression. Her patience was too good, her vigilance had almost become a conditioned reflex, as if that kind of wariness had already been incorporated into her nerves, not needing any instructions from her brain, her body had automatically entered alert mode.

It's just like being a machine...

He stretched out his hand and gently helped her move the hair away from her face. He didn't know how she could sleep like that, always hiding her face in her hair - didn't she feel uncomfortable sleeping like this?

He withdrew his hand and let out a soft sigh, "Is it any different now than before? You still can't sleep, huh." It's really unclear what she's thinking, clearly exhausted to the point of collapse, yet insisting on stubbornly holding on until her body can't take the strain and she passes out. That's why her high fever just won't go down... Not sleeping, not sleeping well, is it possible for the fever to subside?

Thinking of a fever, Yukimura stretched out his hand to touch her forehead, and then touched his own forehead with the bandaged hand, feeling the completely different temperatures of the two people.

At this time, the girl who was originally closing her eyes on the bed quietly opened her eyes, with bright eyes, and indeed had been pretending to sleep.

"Hmm." Nodding her head, Yukimura gave a faint smile in her direction. At that moment, the girl felt as if she had heard the sound of flowers blooming. It was light and lovely.

"A lot of the fever has gone down. It seems like the medicine is taking effect. If you can get a good night's sleep, the fever will probably be gone by tomorrow." A good night's sleep... how hard is it for her to achieve that?!

He opened his eyes to find the girl's expression a bit dull, still with that flat and waveless gaze. However, the blackness in her eyes slowly dissipated, and something called longing crawled up into her eyes, very much like the emotions she had revealed when feeding earlier. So he almost blurted out: "Are you hungry?"

She seemed even more stunned, but shook her head.

Aren't you hungry? What's wrong. Just as Kōmura was puzzled, the girl suddenly raised her right hand towards him, and those longing eyes gazed at him quietly.

He raised an eyebrow in puzzlement, but still stretched out his hand and grasped it. The two hands clasped together, holding tightly.

She winked at him and then closed her eyes, really falling asleep.

It wasn't like her previous fake sleep, although she had been very good at it. And this was probably the first time that day she fell asleep rather than passed out.
